High-alpine ridge crossing

Good physical condition, climbing know-how

Well marked footpath along the Klagenfurter Jubiläum footpath

Equipment:

Rucksack, alpine boots with ankle support and a good-grip rubber sole, woollen or skiing socks, anorak with a hood (Goretex), waterproofs, cap, gloves, sun glasses (with high-quality UV protection), sun cream, lip protection, spare clothing, water bottle. Safety equipment will be provided by the mountain guide (crampons, harness, rope, etc.).

How to get there:

Travel to Heiligenblut
Take the Glockner Road to the Hochtor car park (you can also catch the bus from Heiligenblut)

Hochtor car park

Directions:

From the Hochtor follow the Geo-trail footpath as far as the turn off for Rossscharte – then proceed to the Weissenbachscharte. There the ridge starts, taking you first by way of the Modereck and then over other summits, to the Otto-Umlauft-Bivouac. From there follow the marked path leading to the Hocharn summit.

Descent:

Option 1: Back to the Otto-Umlauft-Bivouac and into the Fleiss valley via the footpath
