Taking in the Gössnitz valley and an overnight stop at the Elberfelder Hut, this walking tour to the Roter Knopf is one of the best 2-day hikes in the Schober Group.

| Characteristics: |
The Gössnitz valley is a very long high valley, at the end of which stands the Elberfelder Hut. The quickest summit to get to from there is the Roter Knopf. |

Excellent physical condition, sure-footedness on the summit ascent |

Mostly a well marked footpath; boulder terrain in the summit area |

Only slightly exposed, but there are no safety facilities! |

Equipment: |
Rucksack, alpine boots with ankle support and a good-grip rubber sole, woollen or skiing socks, anorak with a hood (Goretex), waterproofs, cap, gloves, sun glasses (with high-quality UV protection), sun cream, lip protection, spare clothing, water bottle. Safety equipment will be provided by the mountain guide (crampons, harness, rope, etc.). |

Directions: |
After a steep ascent by way of the forest road, follow the Gössnitz valley along the marked footpath, as far as the Elberfelder Hut. From there another (partly) marked rock ascent will take you up to the summit. |

Descent: |
If you are staying overnight at the Elberfelder Hut, taking the path via the Langtalsee lakes is recommended, as you head back down into the valley. |
