| How to get there: | Travel to Obervellach/Mölltal From Obervellach, go past the Schroth Spa Institute, to Pfaffenberg. |
||
| Starting place: | The car park beyond Pfaffenberg | ||
| Ascent: |
From the car park, follow the forest road into the Kaponig valley. Cross the Kaponig bridge (1,382 m), and take the broad alpine pasture footpath to the Gatternig alpine pasture (1.498 m) and the Urban alpine pasture (1,807 m). Then, along the increasingly steep, marked path up to Zirmboden. Just before you reach a hunting hut there (1,972 m), the steep track to the Zagutnigspitz branches off. From that point the narrow and relentlessly steep track leads you directly up to the summit, across the Kaponig Alpine Pasture meadows. In one place you have to cross a very prominent erosion channel. |

| Descent: | Same route as for the ascent | ||
